The luncheon will begin at 11:45 am at The Flame Steakhouse. Tickets for this event are on a first come, first serve basis and can be purchased online or by calling the office at 919.775.7341. Tickets are $15 for Chamber Members and $20 for Non-Chamber Members.

About the Lee County Education Foundation
The Lee County Education Foundation, founded in 2003, is a non-profit 501(c)3 entity dedicated to supporting excellence in the Lee County Schools system. Through donations from private individuals and corporations, the Foundation has created an endowment of more than $1 million – the goal of which ismobilizing resources and funding programs to raise the level of student improvement in Lee County and to help create a public school system that graduates students well-prepared for the 21st century workforce. Since its inception, the Foundation has funded more than $600,000 in grants and awards to programs at the elementary, middle and high school levels, mostly through its flagship “Head of Class” program. The Foundation is managed by a president who reports to a 16-member board of directors. Foundation offices are located in Sanford, North Carolina.

About Head of Class
Since its inception in 2011, the Head of Class prize has been lauded by state and national leaders in education policy and used as a model of public-private incentive initiatives. With Head of Class, the Lee County Education Foundation awards $50,000 annually to the faculty and staff of the best performing elementary school in Lee County. The incentive-based model is the first of its kind in North Carolina. Each employee of the winning school – principal, teachers, teacher assistants, librarians, custodians, etc. – receives a portion of the award.
The award reinforces the hard work necessary to improve the academic performance of Lee County students as measured by the annual testing by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
When the program was announced, former N.C. Gov. James B. Hunt said that, “Innovation is at the heart of education improvement and the work of the Lee County leaders reflect this drive to create new incentives and new models for high achievement. North Carolina will be enjoying the rewards of this effort for many years to come.”
Former N.C. Gov. James E. Holshouser said, “Local leaders will be the drivers of change and improvement in North Carolina schools. This Lee County effort is a remarkable reflection of the community’s willingness to create excellence in education.”
Greenwood Elementary School was awarded the 2016-17 Head of Class award last September. This year’s winner will be announced at a public gala on Sept. 18.
