Healthcare & Lifestyle Choice: Navigating Your Second 50 is a series of two conversations to be held on Tuesday, September 10 and Tuesday, September 24 at 4:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the Chapel in the Pines located at 581 Seven Lakes Drive, West End. Whether you are just starting to plan for your second 50, navigating a healthcare crisis, or supporting a family member as they navigate the challenges of aging, these conversations hosted by a local panel of experts will provide information and resources to support your journey.
Jennifer Tyner, Aging Life Care™ Professional, AOS Care Management; Robin Hutchings, Sales and Marketing Director, Fox Hollow Senior Living; and Ashley Culbreth, Registry Administrator, AOS At Home Care will facilitate the conversations. The September 10 program will focus on healthcare choices with guest panelist Emily Tobias, Attorney with Gills & Tobias, LLP. Tuesday, September 24 Edward T. Hill, Certified Financial Planner™ with Edward Hill Wealth Management will be the guest panelist for a discussion on lifestyle choices. The doors will open at 3:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 4:00 p.m. Each program will conclude with a question-and-answer period.
Tuesday, September 10 the discussion will focus on Healthcare Choices. Research shows that the average older adult will experience health changes as they age. Whether a chronic condition or a new diagnosis that pops up unexpectedly, as we age there is a chance that we will need support in one form or another.
  • Have you talked with your medical provider about what kinds of health crisis and declines to expect? Jennifer Tyner, Aging Life Care™ Professional, will share tips on how to navigate this discussion and how to use this information to create a customized plan that incorporates your finances and your healthcare and lifestyle goals.
  • Have you completed your advance directives or recently reviewed the documents you completed years ago? Emily Tobias, elder care attorney, will explain the legal and medical documentation everyone needs to ensure that choices and wishes are honored.
  • Are you prepared to re-assess your preferences and plans periodically? Planning allows you to prepare for your future, but reality reminds us that our plans will evolve over time. Robin Hutchings, care community professional, and Ashley Culbreth, registry caregiver administrator, will explore several scenarios that may influence your needs, wants, and preferences over time.
 
Tuesday, September 24 the discussion will focus on Lifestyle Choices with guest panelist Edward Hill. From early retirement years to coping with a life altering diagnosis to end-of-life care decisions, choices and decisions surround us. Our panel of experts will share insights and tips designed to help you navigate the abundance of lifestyle choices and opportunities older adults and their families experience.
  • Are your finances in line with your lifestyle choices? Ed Hill, Certified Financial Planner™, will provide a reality check on the most common expenses you need to plan for during your second 50.
  • When a healthcare condition requires additional in-home support or the move to a care community, do you know how to determine the care best option for you? Ashley Culbreth, registry caregiver administrator, Robin Hutchings, care community professional, and Jennifer Tyner, Aging Life Care™ Professional, will share practical advice on how to research and select your best options.
  • Have you shared your lifestyle choices with your support team? Family members, close friends, and trusted professionals who will execute your wishes need to understand your choices and decisions. Jennifer Tyner, Aging Life Care™ Professional, will provide tips on how to best navigate these discussions with family and professionals.
